Beloved Son, Father, Grandfather and Friend
6/29/54 – 8/9/18
Danny Young was born on June 29, 1954 in Pasadena, CA. He was an active, happy, outgoing towheaded little boy who preferred blocks, tools, and toy trucks to books or puzzles. He loved tagging along with his dad, Richard Young, and his beloved Grandpa Glenn Young, ‘helping’ them with any project involving tools. He also took great delight in helping his Grandma Ferne Young cook, jar jams, and taste-test her pies. He liked to pull pranks on his older siblings, Terry Young and Robert (Bob) Young. He told of being grateful for having a playmate in his little sister, Sherry Young (Lozon).
Danny spent most of his youth in Thousand Oaks, CA. He loved music and activity and spent hours and hours riding his bike and exploring the Conejo Valley – until he learned to love the freedom of riding a motorcycle.
His very favorite thing to do was be on the water. As a young boy his family would take their boat from the coast of California to Catalina Island, and he took great pride in learning to pilot that boat into the dock before he could clearly see over the wheel. He loved sailing, and by high school his passion was surfing. He found Jesus through the Disciple Surf Club, and that began his life-long commitment to serving the Lord.
Danny attended Thousand Oaks High School and was a proud member of the football team. He graduated TOHS in June of 1972, and soon moved into the New Life House, a Christian youth outreach ministry. He served in many ways, including as a worship leader, and as a co-founder of their Island Outreach ministry on Catalina Island.
On April 2, 1977, Danny married Kathy Carlson. They settled in Newbury Park, CA. In March of 1980 Danny joyfully became a father when Heather Suzanne Young was born. She was joined in 1982 by Jennifer Sharon Young, and in 1984 Richard (Rick) Daniel Young completed Danny’s family. He was a loving, engaged, and proud papa, who worked hard to support his loved ones.
As a young adult Danny worked with his Dad and brother at Young Electric in Thousand Oaks. He earned his Journeyman Electrician’s license in 1978. He worked as an electrician while studying and interning to become a minister in the Foursquare Church, and to supplement his ministerial income. In 1988 the family relocated to Castle Rock, CO to plant a Foursquare Church, and Danny said he’d found his home.
Following his years as a minister he worked as a building inspector for Douglas County, CO and subsequently the City of Castle Rock. He loved the countryside and enjoyed riding his motorcycle through the mountains, spending time with his grown children Heather and her husband Jeremy Miller and their four children Holden, Conner, Brennan and Cerilene; his daughter Jenni and her husband Austen Schlecht and their two children Bella and Max, and his son Rick Young and his three children, Gaige, Haylee and Riley. Danny was a very proud Dad and grandfather, loved his family deeply, and bragged often.
Throughout his life Danny had many interests; he was a licensed ham radio operator KH6HXD, and spent years training in Martial Arts, earning three black belts in various disciplines. Danny was the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International. He loved to communicate with his friends worldwide on Facebook, and was a regular at many of Castle Rock’s restaurants. He loved to travel and particularly loved visiting his parents Richard and Joan Young in Westlake Village, CA. He especially enjoyed staying at their Beach House in Channel Islands. Danny always loved the beach and the harbor and spent as much time there as he could. He also enjoyed spending time with his many friends in Thousand Oaks and Ventura County.
Danny passed away suddenly on August 9, 2018 at his home in Castle Rock, Colorado. Danny knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and we are grateful that he is held in His Everlasting Arms. He will be deeply missed by all his loving family and friends.
Danny was preceded in death by his grandparents Ferne and Glenn Young, and his sister Lisa Angela Young. He is survived by his parents Richard and Joan Young, his three children Heather Miller, Jenni Schlecht and Rick Young, his nine grandchildren, his three siblings Robert Glenn Young of Thousand Oaks, Terry Lee Young of Aiken, South Carolina and Sherry Lynn Lozon of Rio Verde, AZ. He has many, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and Uncle Danny will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 4 p.m., with a reception following. Danny’s ashes will be returned to Channel Islands, California off of the coast of the beach he so loved. A memorial service will also be conducted at that time.
