

Memorial services will be held in early spring in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, his primary residence.
Born on September 20, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Russell Longenecker and Mary Agnes Berglund Longenecker. He married Mary Gene Blackburn on March 19, 1949 in Houston, Texas. They were married 49 years until 1998, when Mary Gene passed away after a long illness.
Don graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a B.S. Degree in Geology and Engineering. Don served in the United States Navy as a navy pilot. He was a WWII Veteran.
After college, Don joined Youngstown Steel which later became Jones and Laughlin Steel as a metallurgical engineer, where he spent 36 years as a regional pipe engineer for the western US and western Canada.
Don and Mary Gene made Wyoming their home for over fifty years, raising two children in Casper, Wyoming and then moving to Jackson, Wyoming when they retired.
Don was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Casper, Wyoming, and more recently, a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jackson, Wyoming. Don loved the outdoors, spending most of his free time rock hunting, fishing, and oil painting pictures of the outdoors or just working on special projects.
He is survived by two daughters: Julia G. Longenecker Stapp of Richland, Washington and Kathleen A. Longenecker of Castle Rock, Colorado. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Darby C. Stapp and two grandchildren, Diana and Tommy Stapp of Richland, Washington.
