Edgar Clifford Bane, Jr. age 64 of Castle Rock, CO passed away on October 22, 2023. He was born on July 6, 1959 in Queens, New York, the son of Edgar Clifford Bane, Sr. and Carmela Giunta Bane. Edgar married Rebecca Brentlinger, April 29, 1978, being the love of each others lives. She preceded him in death in 2013. He never remarried.
Edgar was born and raised in New York before moving to West Virginia where he met his wife, Becky, while working as several levels of management for Pizza Hut. They later moved to Pinellas County, Florida where he worked at Motion Power Boats building speed boats for racing, leading him to Miami, Florida. While in Miami, he continued to work for Motion building speed boats as well as luxury boats, later becoming part owner of the company. Soon after that, he shifted career paths building and owning two restaurants, Gar’s on the Green and Legends. He made lifelong friends who became family to him throughout his careers. He was an extremely hard working man and never skipped a beat on making sure his family always had everything they ever wanted and needed. Sometimes working multiple jobs just to put smiles on the faces of the three loves of his life. Ed spent his last season of life in Colorado with his two daughters, son-in-law and grandson, slowing down on work and focusing more on his life and the things that made him happy.
When any stranger met Ed or “Gar” (as he was affectionately known as) they immediately no longer felt like a stranger around him. Gar, always made everyone feel warm, welcomed and loved. Ed never had a bad word to say about anyone. Some of his best advice he would say would be “Forget about it” or “Will you know this person in 10 years?”, and he truly stood by that. He was a cigar connoisseur, loved playing poker and roulette. Some of his most talked about memories were trips to Blackhawk Casino with his son-in-law; Atlantic City and Las Vegas with his brothers; and Miccosukee with his wife. He really enjoyed watching and betting on NFL, long chats on the phone with all his best friends, collecting all kinds of trinkets, and being a family man.
Ed was very proud of his Italian heritage, always telling everyone stories of the Italian NY lifestyle and mobsters. He was a dedicated supporter of Trump and was willing to not let you win that fight on his opinion all while having a smile on his face doing so. Ed loved his music – some of his favorite artists included Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Leonard Skynyrd, Outlaw Country, The Beatles, and anything really from that era. He also was a film fanatic who enjoyed and quoted Bruce Lee films, Scarface, Rocky, The Godfather, Pope of Greenwich Village, and Superman (all secret alter egos of his). He even had a soft spot for his daughters and would quote their movies with them too. However, Ed’s greatest passion was his family. He was happy just being with them and time spent together no matter what it was.
Missing him dearly are his daughters Brooke Smith, husband Chris and grandson Christopher; Sami Bane; his brothers Victor Laguarino and Anthony Laguarino; sisters Dorothy Blake, Mary Elliott, and Carol Richards; and many nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Eddie. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife, several aunts and uncles, and great dear friends of his.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel in Castle Rock.
