Born in Paoli, PA in 1933 to Dennis and Frances (nee Wallace) Aherne, Elizabeth grew up in Paoli and graduated from Tredyffrin Easttown High School in Berwyn, PA. After graduation, Elizabeth went to work as a secretary for the Philadelphia office of the Dunn and Bradstreet corporation.
In 1957, Elizabeth married Samuel J. Arrigo, her husband of 61 years, and moved to Bucks County where she raised her three sons, Samuel Jr., Peter and Chris, in the tranquil countryside of Ottsville, PA.
Elizabeth dearly loved animals. She and her family kept horses, sheep, dogs, cats, chickens and even a pet raccoon at their country home. But of all the animals in that happy menagerie, her greatest love was for her dogs. She commented she couldn't remember a time in her life when she didn’t have at least one dog.
While raising her family, Elizabeth worked as a kindergarten teacher’s aide at Nockamixon Consolidated Elementary School. She later spent ten years working at Doylestown Hospital as a PBX switchboard operator. Elizabeth was always proud of her role in supporting the excellent care Doylestown Hospital provided to the community.
In 2000, Elizabeth and her husband Samuel moved to Castle Rock, CO to join her three sons who had previously moved to Colorado. She spent her Colorado years enjoying her family and friends amid the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. She will be remembered for her generous love for her family and friends and her Irish sense of humor.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; son, Christopher; brother, Dennis and sister, Denise. She is survived by sons, Samuel Jr., Peter (Ann Marie) and grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas and Samantha. There will be a private, graveside service on April 9th at Mt. Lindo Cemetery in Morrison, CO. In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth hoped her friends would make a memorial contribution to an animal shelter of their choice.
