Emmett was born on March 24, 1924 in Peoria, Illinois to Irene Russell Parkhurst and Samuel E. Russell. He had three half-brothers, Miles Russell, Dayton Russell and Clayton Russell who predeceased him. On October 8, 1944 he married Mary E. Giebelhausen with whom he enjoyed 71 years as husband and wife. They were blessed with two children, Lawrence (Pat) Russell and Linda (Glen) Danskin; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Chris) Lowe, Cameron (Lauren) Bowman, Christopher “Kit” Bowman (deceased), and Janelle (James) Milliken; and four great-grandchildren, Grace Lowe, Ethan Lowe, Teagan Boffey and Ella Milliken.
Emmett served his Country as a sergeant in the United States Army Air Corp during WW II as an instructor in Loran Navigation at Westover Air Base, MA and later assigned to duty in the European theatre of operations. Emmett was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, rising through the ranks to his final appointment as Regional Director of Customer Service before retiring in 1981.
In 1982, Emmett (and Mary) served as a short term missionary, Community Youth Ministries in Germany. He was active in church work throughout the years, and was a member of Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church in Englewood, CO.
Emmett was known by his love and faith in the Lord, how he cherished, provided for and nourished his family by modeling his faith, and his commitment to the church through active participation and service.
Although family and friends will miss Emmett’s presence and wit, we rejoice that he is enjoying his Heavenly home and being reunited with family and friends that have gone before.
