Fred LaPerriere

Fred grew up in Denver and Sedalia. Art Klug, a local Sedalia cowboy, was the true father figure to a young Fred. Fred’s love of the land, animals, stoicism and an unwavering work ethic and sense of responsibility came from Art. Fred had always taken much pride in Douglas County and Sedalia.

While attending college he was drafted during the Vietnam war. The Army quickly saw his intellectual capabilities, signing him up for a cryptology school. He served his country by installing cryptographic equipment throughout the world including behind enemy lines. Fred met Kay, who was also in the Army, in Paris. After they married they settled into a happy life in Sedalia.

Fred had a successful career as Vice President of Denver Burglar Alarm redesigning the central station and making innovations to the alarm industry of which some are still used today. Fred’s passion included his family,  heavy equipment restoration of WWII vehicles and the “ranch”. Fred and Kay were loved members of the Sedalia community, often seen driving around in one of his Jeeps. Fred will be remembered as a friend to all. 

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Kay, his brothers Jay and Marcel LaPerriere and his sister Chelly Wiggins.

He is survived by his sister Andree Powers, his children Lee and Jenny LaPerriere, his daughter-in-law Carolyn LaPerriere, his son-in-law Alex Meland and his grandson Auden Meland.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 1:00 pm at 5605 Jackson Creek Road, Sedalia, Colorado 80135, and guests are asked to please bring your favorite pie to share.
