Mick was born in Chicago, IL on November 9, 1938 to Frederick Stefan, Sr. and Charlotte Knowlton. He graduated from Coral Gables High School where he was an accomplished athlete. He attended The Ohio State University and earned a bachelor's degree in business. Upon graduation he started his career with Shell Oil and then worked in the retail fashion industry in several executive roles. His love for the mountains called him back to Colorado where he spent the rest of his career as a financial advisor.
Mick was married to the love of his life, Fay Hallifax Stefan, for 39 years. They had a wonderful life together filled with adventure and travel. Mick was an ROTC cadet in college and member of Rotary Club. He spent many years volunteering for various organizations, including Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. He enjoyed many outdoor activities over the years, including skiing, sailing, biking, and hiking, but his greatest passion was fly fishing. To many he was considered the Yoda of fly fishing. He became a professional fly fishing guide and instructor and many were blessed to have learned to fly fish under his patient guidance.
Mick is preceded in death by his brother, Robin Stefan. He is survived by his wife, Fay Stefan; his children, Fritz Stefan (Karen), John Stefan (Eva), Jenni Cox (Todd), Matt Stefan, Traver Stefan (Blakeley), and Christopher Stefan (Laura); brother Mark Stefan (Susan), sister Jane Moore (Paul Smith); thirteen grandchildren (and one on the way), five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Mick’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the care he received from the nurses at Elevation Hospice and the love and support he and his family have received from their church family at Christ’s Episcopal Church in Castle Rock.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mick’s memory to Christ’s Episcopal Church.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
