George Arthur "Art" Lewis Jr.

Born February 14, 1936, Art lived a life defined by family, friendship, and an unwavering ability to bring people together. He was a natural social organizer and community leader who never met a stranger. Outgoing and genuinely interested in people, Art had a remarkable gift for finding common ground with everyone he met. He treated every person with respect and made them feel valued, regardless of who they were or where they came from.

He was a great storyteller, and those who knew him will remember the stories, the laughter, and the countless conversations that could turn strangers into friends. He wasn't necessarily a “joiner,” but he was certainly an instigator. When Art had an idea, people listened and they got behind him – he had a way of inspiring others to come together and make things happen.

Art was generous with his time, his resources, and his friendship. He believed in financially supporting organizations that, in his words, “offer ideas and formats for living that make us all that much better.” His absence will be deeply felt, but his legacy lives on in the many people he brought together, the lives he touched, and the family and friendships he cherished. Those were whom he referred to when he said, “here’s to the good people.”

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary “Dudie” Lewis, with whom he shared a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories. He is survived by his children, Laura (Ken) Speer, Connie (Peter) Dahl, Trey (Annette) Lewis, and Jeanne Corrado; grandchildren Leslie (Todd) Whitehead, Brian (Jenna) Speer, Katie (Morgan) Lesko, Hannah Speer, Alysan Dahl, Rachel (Nicholas) Trujillo, Ian Bennis, Liz Bennis, Audrey Corrado, and Kevin Corrado; and great-grandchildren Nick, Kiarra, Wiley, Colter, Dakota, and Hayden. They will forever treasure the time they shared with him, the stories he told, and the lessons he passed along.

Art will be interred next to Dudie, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado at a date to be determined.
