Jacke was born on May 21, 1933, in Shively, KY, the daughter of Francis and Lucille Cottom. While in high school she met the love of her life, Harvey Charles Young at an Ice Cream Parlor. She attended University of Kentucky, graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor Science Commence degree. Jacke and Harvey were married on June 1, 1955, in Lexington, Kentucky.
Shortly after their wedding, Harvey entered the U.S. Army, and the couple was stationed in Frankfurt in support of the Korean War effort. It was there that they welcomed their first child, Robert Charles. After completing their two-year posting in Germany, they returned to Kentucky, where Harvey began his career as a geologist with Ashland Oil Company and started a family.
In 1969, as part of the expansion of Ashland Oil operations, Harvey and Jacke relocated to Denver with their six children to open a new office there. A few years later they welcomed their last child Laura Jane. In Denver, Jacke built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and community involvement.
Jacke’s greatest joy in life was her beloved husband Harvey, with whom she shared 61 wonderful years of marriage, along with their seven children, twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. Her deep Christian faith guided every aspect of her life. She was actively involved with the Outdoor Garden Railroad community, Canyons Community Church, and local orchid and rose gardening clubs, and cactus-succulent society. She was also devoted to supporting her children through their many sports, school, and club activities over the years. She was on the Board of Directors for Schlessman YMCA, and secretary/treasurer, Vice President and President of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, Denver Chapter. She was with the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists Association Affiliates. She received her Real Estate license in 1979 and Real Estate Broker license in 1982.
Jacke worked for Kentucky Geological Consultants, Inc, as Office Manager, Globe Enterprise, Inc as Administrative Secretary to the Chief Executive Officer, Harvey Young and Company as Executive Secretary to the President, The Packard Company as Administrative Secretary to the President and Vice President, First Equity Development as Administrative Secretary and Office Manager and US West/Media One as Administrative Secretary to the Vice President.
Jacke is survived by her children: Thomas L. Young of Victoria, Aus; Cynthia G. Lantz of Castle Pines, CO; Douglas K. Young of Castle Pines, CO; Karen E. Tatnall of Lone Tree, CO; Dianne K. Macklberg of Littleton, CO; and Laura J. Young of Hamburg, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey C. Young, and her sons, Robert C. Young and Steven Young.
Jacke will be remembered by family and friends as loving, generous, witty, and spirited, with a wonderfully spunky sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew her. Her memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many lives she touched with kindness and grace.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Canyons Community Church, 4825 N. Crowfoot Valley Road, Castle Rock, CO 80108.
