Jim was born October 29, 1933 in Woodward, Oklahoma to James S. Geerdes and Viola Marie Aldrich. He was one of six children. His siblings are Joan Marie Maggi, Robert Eugene Geerdes, Barbara Carol Gable, Donna Kay Isaacson, and Sandy Jane Robinson.
He was a Corporal in the United Stares Army and honorably discharged on August 20, 1961 and was an elected official and served on the Kiowa School Board for 6 years.
On November 30, 1957 he married Betty Jean Stewart, the love of his life in Denver CO. Their children and Paul Geerdes and wife Roxy, James L. Geerdes and wife Renee, Debra Wright and husband Greg. In 1964 the family moved to Kiowa, CO and began their lives on the farm. There they ranched cattle, farmed hay and wheat, and nurtured a coop full of chickens. Years later those chickens were terrorized by their seven grandchildren: Mathew Geerdes, Autumn Giefter, Stephanie Winters, Stacie Garrison, Jamie Bennett, Amber Felmlee and James Felmlee.
Jim and Betty were on several bowling leagues and they never missed a night. They loved to hunt and fish together. He travelled all over with Betty, Debra, and his beloved friend Peggy Reed. One of his favorite places to go was Alaska, where he visited and fished with his old Army buddy Marvin Olson. Jim and Betty had a long and loving marriage, but on November 21, 2002 the Lord called Betty home. Jim continued his passion for bowling and fishing. He is survived by 10 great grandsons, Wyatt, Leevi, Warner, Anderson, Waylon, Harrison, Oliver, Kolbe, Jack Griffin, and one great granddaughter Eliza, who was laid to rest. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He spent his last few years with his loving family and in the care of his daughter Debra and her husband Greg, granddaughter Amber, grandson James and sister-in-law Carol Stewart.
A viewing will be help at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel in Castle Rock, CO on September 16th from 11am to 2pm. A graveside service will be held September 17th at 10am at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Castle Rock.
