Jim Hamm was born March 1st, 1930, in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Clarence and Phyllis Hamm, he had two sisters, Barbara Alley and Helen Chambers all diseased. Jim’s wife, Melba, passed away in February 2017. He is survived, by his two sons: Doug, his wife Janette, granddaughter Tori; and younger son William.
Jim was a Rocky Ford High School track star; Army Captain; High School Science Teacher; Woodland Park High School Principal; and Educator earning his Doctorate in Education.
He was a Boy Scout and served for years as a Scout Master. Along the way, Jim built and flew his own airplane and constructed the first airport runway in Telluride Colorado. While there Jim even sang in the opera. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking, making it a point to spend as much time as he could enjoying God’s creation.
Jim had a great sense of humor and will be missed by many.
