She graduated from North Platte High School in 1969, and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in early Childhood Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1973. While working as a teacher in Broken Bow, Nebraska in 1977 she met Darrell at the local watering hole and fell in love. Janice and Darrell were married in Broken Bow, Nebraska on April 8th, 1978.
Upon completion of Jan’s teaching contract in May, they relocated to Denver and started their family. Jan’s professional life included working with special needs students, managing day care centers and 16 years working as a Licensing Specialist for the State of Colorado Department of Health and Human Services. As a long time resident of Arvada, Colorado, she loved exploring areas off the beaten path and taking drives in the mountains, as long as she got to sit in the front seat, lest she’d get the best view of the roadside daisies.
After retirement in 2009, Jan spent her time caring for her parents, loving on her grandchildren and took on the self-declared moniker “Grams.” She loved learning and traveling; she was always the person on a guided tour asking ALL the questions. She also enjoyed sewing, watching movies (always wondering aloud if she’d seen this one), playing with her granddogs and watching the hummingbirds that were very well fed on the back patio. She never passed up an opportunity to support her grandkids; always excited to attend recitals, watch horseback riding or cheer at various band and sporting events. Janice loved many things in life, above all, she loved her family.
Janice is survived by her husband Darrell; her children Jeremy (Erin) Hirsch and Jaime (Michael) Greene; grandchildren Adelyn, Jude and Bianca; step-grandchildren Cole (Amanda) Greene and Olivia Greene; brother Wayne (Michelle) Price; mother-in-law Rose Hirsch; sisters-in-law Denise Daake and Deb Gribble.
She is preceded in death by her parents Everett and Loretta Price, and father-in-law Wayne Hirsch; brother-in-law Marty Clark; brother-in-law Bernard Gribble; and brother-in-law Leonard Daake
Visitation for Janice will be held Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel, 407 Jerry Street, Castle Rock, Colorado 80104.
Funeral service will occur Monday, January 27, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel.
