Jay grew up in Webster Groves, MO where he graduated from Webster Groves High School. He attended Pikes Peak Community College and served in the U.S. Army from 1966 -1969. He met Barbara Bonney in the business office and they were married July 7, 1984.
Jay had a lifelong dedication to mechanical and technical work. He owned his own mechanical shop and spent 20 years with CenturyLink (formerly Qwest) as an E911/FAA maintenance employee before retiring in 2009.

His calm, loving nature made him a deeply involved father, a patient and wise grandfather who found joy in inspiring his sons and grandchildren. As a husband, he will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and steady presence. Whether cheering on his teams or spending a peaceful day on the beach—his favorite place—he brought warmth and heart to everything he did.
