I will miss you Uncle Joe.

Joe, I was mighty glad to be back in touch with you over the past 15 years or so. You were a great friend. Charlie told me about your passing, so I am late saying goodbye. Sorry we all could not have grown a little older together.  I just turned 80, so I expect all of us who knew you at Vandy will be seeing you again over the next few years. Father Time!

Got to know Joe well when managing the Vandy football team in the early 1960's. He was always a character and a great guy. Fortunately got back in touch with him again over the past 20 years or so. We shared a love of guns and shooting. I did not now he had passed until Charlie Trabue just emailed me. Sending love and support to his family. Joe was a fine fellow and will be missed. So sorry! Joe and I served in US Air Force together at Chanute Air base in ILL
and in Viet Nam.  While in SEA we traveled to some wonderful
places i.e. Singapore, Bali, Thailand and Indonesia.  Everyone of those memories make me smile mainly because Joe was there with me.


Joe and I played football against in each other in high school and became team mates at Vanderbilt. Even though separated by him living in Colorado or Virginia and me living in Nashville, we communicated often and visited when he was in either Nashville or Cadiz. I will miss our conversations. My condolences to Sylvia and their family.

Joe Harold and I grew up on Billy Goat Hill in Cadiz, Ky.  His grandmother Flora lived between us.  We played basketball in Mrs. Flora s driveway and football and baseball in the street and swung on vine limbs on the gulley behind our houses.  We also rode stick horses. Joe and I grew up together in Trigg County/Cadiz,KY. Joe’s mother was our Den Mother in Cub Scouts. I have great memories of the times we spent together, especially high school sports and all the hunting trips with Bob Gerol and Joe’s Uncle Claude. In the last week of his life we had two conversations that I will treasure forever. Penny and I send our Love and condolences to Sylvia and the family. God Bless you all.

Big Joe arrived at NRA Publications in January 2000 like a bolt of lightning, and we sure felt it! He put the division back on the map and turned us into an outdoor media force “to be reckoned with”, as he would say. He believed in his staff and let us fly, and he was proud of us. Thanks for the memories, Joe. Whenever I hear the Drifters' version of "White Christmas" I remember you, and how you played it on your computer loud enough for me to hear all the way in my office. Rest in peace.


Based on the comments from my fellow mourners, it's obvious that Joe had a major impact on their lives as he did mine. With that said , simply stated "He was my friend and I'll miss him. RIP" 

Joe Harold and me were close cousins.  We played together when we were boys and shared many memories, especially sports.  My heart is broken at his passing but I am also rejoicing because I know that he had a relationship with Jesus Christ and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is in paradise today with Jesus and his parents and his brother Johnnie.  I was blessed to be able to pray with him before he died and sing to him one of his favorite songs that I wrote.  When I was nine years old, Joe gave me my first guitar and because of that gift, I have played guitar for over 65  years.   My prayers go out to Sylvia and the children. You all are in my heart and in my prayers. Rest In Peace my friend.  I love you!!!

Joe was always a cousin I looked up to. He was smart, good looking, and athletic. I will miss Joe greatly, even though we did not see each other that often in our later years. The great memories of Joe will out last the pain of his passing. Rest in Peace Joe Harold,  and may the peace of Christ be with Joe’s family.


Joe Graham was the best boss I ever had. He saw and encouraged a potential in me that I was unaware of. Tough, generous to a fault, funny, sober at the right times, a fearless defender of what is right; these are the qualities I remember in Joe.

We would talk hunting, and Joe said we should go to Africa together. That is one trip we never had the chance to complete.

Joe left a huge footprint. There are hundreds—perhaps thousands—of folks in the gun, hunting and publishing industries who had contact with him. Never heard a disparaging word.

So sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. Joe was not only a  great mentor but more importantly a great friend. We shared many stories and laughs over the years. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sylvia and the family.  Flip & Jan Dalfonso


Good bye to you dear cousin , you did go home  , just not to Western  Ky.  Visit and catch up with all our family . Oh had an interesting  life ,never leaving your roots . I will miss sharing stories of our earlier life ,  my condolences to Sylvia and your children , for sure they will never know another  with stories as good as yours  .  Rip....
