Jon Edward Boline
December 29, 1935 – September 15, 2018
Jon Boline, aged 82 years, died peacefully in his home in Highlands Ranch on September 15th. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Blanche Boline, younger brother Robert, and an infant sister.
Born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and raised in Battle Lake, MN, Jon received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota. Jon married his beloved wife Cynthia in in 1959 and the couple moved to Honolulu, HI where he was an officer in the army stationed at Tripler Medical Center. He subsequently completed his pathology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Jon moved the family to Denver in 1967 and practiced medicine at St. Joseph Hospital (SJH) until his retirement in 2001. He was Chief of Pathology and the Blood Bank at St. Joseph during the early years of HIV and was instrumental in developing new protocols for blood donation. Jon later served as President of SJH and the Medical Staff, mentoring young doctors throughout his career.
Outside of his medical practice, Jon was an avid hiker, skier and tennis player, and the family’s mountain retreat in Vail was the site of many happy memories. He and Cynthia also enjoyed a winter retirement home in Rio Verde, Arizona, where he hiked and biked daily in the Tonto National Forest.
Jon will be remembered as an expert physician, a kind and honest colleague, a committed family man, a lover of nature, history, and the outdoors, and a man of deep faith and great integrity. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Cynthia Deutsch Boline; three daughters, Suzy (prev Danner) Fletcher (and husband John, of Littleton, CO), Stacey Kinne (and husband Michael, of Pittsburgh, PA), and Kathryn Gresham (and husband David, of Brevard, NC); eight beloved grandsons - Ben, Tim and Bryce Danner, Austin, Zachary, Aidan and Zane Kinne, and Jack Gresham; and older brother Allan Boline (Atlanta, GA).
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on November 4, 2018 at the Manor House in Littleton, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jon’s memory to Autism Speaks or The American Heart Association.
