He attended Bishop Ward High School, where he starred in track and football. In 1963, he met and married the love of his life, Jene Brown. Joe graduated cum laude with a business degree from Avila College and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for over 40 years. He retired from the Army as a Chinook helicopter pilot, serving his country during the Vietnam War. He earned several Bronze Stars and a Silver Oak Leaf Cluster Award. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, golfing with friends, and being the best "Papa" to his three grandsons.
He is survived by his wife Jene, daughter Gretchen Huber, son-in-law Mike, and grandsons Joe, Jack, and Brent.
His legacy of faith, service, humor and gentle strength will forever be cherished and remembered. A funeral mass for Joe will be held September 27th at 10:00am at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Prairie Village, Kansas, where he was a longtime member.
