Lester Emmett Houck, age 81, of Castle Rock, Colorado passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Les was born in Oklahoma City, the first child of Emmett and Margaret Houck. The Houck family, which included Les, his parents, and his sister Linda, lived in Bethany, Oklahoma before moving to Littleton, Colorado. He attended Littleton High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1959.
After concluding his service in the Air Force, Les attended the University of Denver, where he met his future wife, Sandra (Sandy) Matteson. The couple married on August 17, 1968 and had two children, Matt and Justin. Les and Sandy were married for 48 years until Sandra's passing in 2016.
Outside of his career as a salesman (which offered him the opportunity to meet many great people from a variety of backgrounds), Les spent many years engaging with his community - he coached both little league baseball and football teams, served on town boards, and was active in the Rotary Club.
Les forged many meaningful friendships with a wide variety of wonderful people. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved, and he tried his best to live his life based on his beliefs. He was never shy about expressing his thoughts, and he meant what he said. While some might have described him as gruff, he truly wanted the best for people and he cared deeply about those around him.
Les was preceded in passing by his sister Linda and his wife Sandy. He is survived by his sons Matt and Justin, daughter-in-law Janet, and granddaughter Sophie.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Friday, December 1 at the Franktown Seventh Day Adventist Church, located at 905 N Hwy 83, Franktown, CO 80116.
