Lyman was born in Elizabeth, Colorado where his parents were farmers. He attended Elementary School in Elizabeth and attended Cunningham School in the Cherry Creek School District, as well as George Hook School, in Jefferson County. He was a beloved member of the Developmental Disabilities Resource Center for 45 years.
Lyman lived at home with his parents through adolescence. His father, Glen Chirnside, died in 1968 and his mother, Mildred (Memmen) Chirnside, a retired teacher's aide and housewife, passed away in 1977. He is survived by cousins William Memmen of California and John Leinberger of Missouri who have looked after his well being since Lyman lost his parents. He was active in the Archer and Gray Street sheltered workshops in the early 80's, and worked on crew jobs throughout the 80's and 90's. Some of the jobs he held were as a dishwasher, housekeeper, and mail clerk. Lyman worked at the Biscuits & Berries catering company in Golden for a number of years.
In his middle years, Lyman enjoyed TV, touch football, music, reading the paper, traveling throughout the United States, and visiting with and socializing with his friends. Lyman played on a softball team for years, and knew a number of people through DDRC. He lived in independent apartment settings with roommates and was very proud of his independence.
In recent years, Lyman was very fortunate to live in a host home through Overture with an incredible couple, Ireine Francisca and Tun Tun Oo, where he again had the opportunity to live with and travel with dear friends. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
