When I was asked to write something to read today, it was not a task that I looked forward to.  This is not because I did not love or treasure my Aunt Lynne.  Instead it is because I loved and treasured her so much, that I abhorred this task because it forces me to think about how Aunt Lynne is actually gone and I am not quite ready to confront the idea of a world without her yet.  

In the book, The Fault in Our Stars, a concept was presented that has stuck with me, and I feel has meaning now: funerals are for the living. Throughout our lives we have given and received so much love from Aunt Lynne to help her pass gracefully into the afterlife. So today is truly about us, and how each of us will carry on with her in our memories. 

Aunt Lynne was certainly one in a million, incredibly generous, always willing to spare time for others problems, and throughout my life she was there at key moments to help guide me along to be the person that I am today.  But the one thing that Lynne was absolutely incredible at was giving each of us strength.  She made us all stronger.  Today and these next few weeks will be horrible, these are the days when we will have to adjust and finally confront that idea that she is no longer here.  But Aunt Lynne was our strength and not our crutch.  God never gives one more than they can handle, and Aunt Lynne will be most happy when we emerge from this period of mourning, realizing the strength she gave us as our own.  

I loved her and admired her dearly. I know we will all miss her for the rest of our lives as the gap she leaves can never fully be replaced.   

To Sacha, while we were not always close growing up, I want you to know that I am here for you and you can call me whenever, between you, me, and my mom we will all get through this together and find the strength that Lynne has endowed for all of us.

Lynne, from the moment we met, you and Sacha became a part of our family.  You and I discussed so many times how rare that was, and how lucky we were.  I feel as though I've lost one of my family, and know that you will always be in my heart.  Just as I also promised that Sacha will always be like another daughter to me. I know you've hooked up with Mom and Dad in heaven and are probably telling them outrageous things about me, which are all true.

So here we are. It's a conversation that you and I have had ever since you beat the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. We knew this day was coming we didn't know when and we never looked forward to it. But you always prepared that this will happen and I will have to continue on without my best friend. This is the reason you moved out to Colorado. So that you and Sacha could be close to the only family you had And that was me with my family. We did not see each other every day; that time was saved for you and Sacha. But we spoke every day and most times more than once a day. You were my rock, you were my confidant, you are my guidance and support and my example of how much love was possible. I was your constant source of humor, a source for information, a friend and a sister.  We never said a bad word between us, nor critical of our life's decisions, we accepted each other's flaws and celebrated our triumphs. Few have ever known such a deep and loyal friendship that spanned for 43 years.
How right you were, with the multitude of friends and people whose lives you had touched, swarms of people from here and all over the country would have attended your funeral.  Thank you for keeping this process small.  I know you did it for the five of us
Your greatest concern was for Sacha that she would be alone and unable to cope with your passing. I assured you that Sacha and her family, Jeremy, Avery and Baby Hunter would not be alone that I've always been there but in the background and chose not to interfere into the special time that you shared. Sacha's been your lifeyour joy in seeing her married to a man that you loved too.  How delighted you felt to share the time with your beautiful and loving  granddaughter Avery, but your sadness in wondering if you shall meet Hunter in this world.  I know you are watching down on us.
We feel the emptiness that your passing has left us . We will always feel this loss, we will always feel this deep void, but eventually we will find our path in our future lives enhanced by the love and devotion you have given us. Our lives will go on but it will be different. Thank you for sharing the light of your life with me. I feel so blessed to be with Sacha, Jeremy, Avery and soon Hunter.  Dan and Carly are looking forward to sharing new adventures with them.
I will cherish them, be their friend and let them know how much they are loved and valued.  I truly miss you my friendhow privileged I am to have had you in my life
