Margaret “Peggy” Vernon was born on July 3, 1950 to Joseph and Margaret Kanies. She ascended into Heaven on January 26, 2025. Peggy is survived by her husband and best friend, Rod Vernon, children Traci Slade (Todd) and Kevin Vernon, grandchildren Tia, Madilyn, Trent, Ruby, Trystan, Bodhi, and Crosby, and her brother, Jim. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Terry and Paul Kanies.
Peggy was a Nurse Practitioner and a pioneer in the nursing field. She earned her Associate's Degree in Nursing from Arapahoe Community College, her Bachelor of Nursing from Metropolitan State College, was one of the first to earn her Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certificate from the University of Colorado, a Master's of Counseling from University of Northern Colorado, and her Post-Master’s in Clinical Dermatology Nurse Practitioner’s Certificate from Regis University. Peggy was a part of a team that was the first in the nation to offer a fellowship for dermatological nurse practitioners, she was an adjunct professor, and most recently launched an innovative dermatology fellowship program at Regis University for nurse practitioners. She lectured nationally and mentored thousands. She was passionate about providing medical care and advice and truly cared about every person she helped.
Peggy was a dear friend to so many and will be sorely missed.
Services will be held February 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson funeral home, 407 Jerry St., Castle Rock, Colorado 80104.
