Maxine Belong Byers

Maxine graduated to her Heavenly home on May 15, 2018 in Castle Rock, Colorado.

Maxine was the last of 12 children born to Robert and Nannie Cary in Carrollton, Missouri.

She married Byron Belong in Kansas City, Missouri in June of 1947. They lived in Lyons, Kansas and had two daughters, Beth DeVries of Littleton, Colorado (deceased) and Teresa Murray of Castle Pines, Colorado. Upon the death of Byron (age 50) she founded the Belong Christian Book Store in Lyons, Kansas and successfully ran that for two years.

Shortly after, Maxine married Norman R. Byers of Hutchinson, Kansas. They lived in Lyons for five years before moving to Fargo, North Dakota where Norman accepted a professorship at North Dakota State University. They resided in North Dakota for 25 years.

Upon his death Maxine moved to Castle Rock, Colorado where she lived until her death.

She is survived by: Teresa and Steve Murray, of Castle Rock, Colorado, Dave DeVries (Beth's husband) of Littleton, Colorado, 2 grandsons, Brian Murray of Calhan, Colorado, Cooper Murray of Castle Pines, Colorado, 3 stepsons, Norman and Mary Byers of Burke, Virginia, Gary and Debbie Byers of Aurora, Colorado, Todd and Gloria Byers of Puyallup, Washington. Step grandchildren, Shana Marie Byers King, Shala Ann Byers Burroughs, Amanda Byers, Kelsey Byers, Tara Byers, Lindsay Byers, Moriah Byers. Maxine also has 6 great step grandchildren.

Maxine will be buried in Lyons, Kansas on Tuesday May 22 at 12 noon.

i was told aunt maxine named me, she was a lady like all the cary girls were. they had a good teacher as her mom (my grandmother) was an angel sent from heaven to guide them. i know without a doubt she is in her heavenly home now with her mom and dad and her daughter beth and the rest of her love ones enjoying a family reunion.
