Nancy was born in Ames, Iowa, on May 15th, 1944 to parents F. Kenneth Werdel and Dorothy A. Hale (Leonard). Nancy was raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she graduated from Saint Mary’s High School. She attended Colorado State University for two years where she met Dave. Nancy and Dave were married on July 4th, 1964. They started a life together in Kiowa Colorado the following August, where they established and operated a successful cattle ranch for the last 50 years. She helped work cattle, put up hay, and made sure bellies were full, just to name a few of her many contributions to the success of the ranch.
On top of all this, she was active in many clubs and organizations, was a 4H leader for many years, and held positions in the Young Homemakers Extension Club. She also loved her quilting and book clubs, and participated annually in many Elbert County Fair activities. She completed her bachelors degree in Computer Science, at the top of her class, in 1992 from Metropolitan State College of Denver. She worked in local and state library systems for over thirty years. In between these activities she traveled extensively both nationally and internationally.
Nancy is survived by her husband Dave Orth (Kiowa, CO), son Christopher Orth and spouse Holly (Seattle, WA), brother James Werdel and spouse Patricia (Cleveland, NM), sister-in-law Avis Werdel and nephew Justin Werdel (Greeley, CO), and nephew Brandon Werdel (Boulder, CO).
Nancy served on the Altar and Rosary Society and was a Lector and Sacristan at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Elizabeth Colorado. Instead of flowers we feel that Nancy would prefer contributions in her honor to be made at this church
