

Pieter Tackenberg, 92, passed away April 10, 2011 while vacationing with his wife in Texas. He was born November 22, 1919, to Hermanus and Cornelia Tackenberg in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from the Rotterdam Institute of Technology in 1940. During World War II he served in the Dutch Resistance, helping rescue downed Allied aircraft crew and delivering messages at night on a bicycle. He immigrated to the United States in 1950 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1955. As an accomplished exploration geophysicist, he worked in the U.S. and internationally for Royal Dutch Shell, Petrobras, Oasis Oil, Cities Service and Marathon Oil where he retired in 1986. From 1965 to 1977 he worked at Marathon’s research center in Littleton, Colorado. In addition to the many countries he lived and worked in, he resided in Colorado for many years and called several cities home including Littleton, Castle Rock, Parker and, most recently, Centennial.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlene, and their three children, Pieter (Cindy) Tackenberg, Jana Orlandini, and Adrienne (Bill) Corso; granddaughters Kristena (Shane) Heiter, Johanna (Joe) Bockenfeld, and Katie Orlandini; grandsons Phil Orlandini, Pieter Orlandini, Andrew Corso and Jack Corso. Preceded in death by his three brothers, Herman, Henk and Kees, he leaves many nieces and nephews in the U.S., Holland and Australia.
