Ralph is survived by his mother, Gail Homyack (Pittson, PA); sister, Heidi Alwill and her fiancé, Jason Jacobosky (Wilkes-Barre, PA); sister, Sara, and her husband, Gino Setta (Ararat Township, PA); daughter, Haley Spangenberg (Wilkes-Barre, PA); son, Alex and daughter, Nina (Monument, CO); and wife, Amy (Monument, CO). Also surviving are his grandfather, Edward Ruckel Sr., Aunt Debbie and Ed Ruckel, Grandma Shirley Kershner, Aunt Lori and Uncle Ronnie Nesbitt, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ralph loved his family above all and rarely forgot a birthday. He'll be missed especially by his loyal friend and caregiver, Jean Marie Heckman (Cumbola, PA) and long-time friend and "brother", Bill Nulton (Noxen, PA).
Ralph is predeceased by his father, Ralph Homyack Sr., grandmother, Georgean Ruckel, and paternal grandparents Andrew and Viola Homyack.
Ralph remembered fondly his childhood years at Cape Cod with his mom and his father-figure, Raymond Cahoon. He attended Tunkhannock and Hanover schools in Pennsylvania; and began studies to become a physical therapy assistant. An avid sports fan of all things Boston - Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics - Ralph leaves an aching void where his sense of humor, brilliant mind, and larger than life personality once were.
Ralph's life changed drastically 10 years ago after an injury. He required much care - and Jean Marie, Susan McGinley, and his mother-in-law, Nina M. Day, helped care for him, and he loved them in return.
Ralph beat all odds and continued to enjoy being with his family, playing scratch-off tickets, going to casinos, talking on the phone, and spending holidays and special occasions with family. Along with his wife and younger children, he took a chance and moved to Colorado less than a year ago. He is a good, sweet, loving, and generous son, father, brother, husband, and friend. He is remembered with love always and forever by those who knew him. He was so proud of his children, who remain as remembrances of him.
Memories of Ralph still make us smile and laugh - life can never be the same without having him here. He was many things to many people, but his most enduring quality is his absolute uniqueness... He truly is one of a kind and our hearts ache missing him. Until we meet again, we keep him close to our hearts.
A service to remember Ralph's life is planned for late July in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ralph's name can be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter: Griffin Pond Road South Abington Township, PA.
