September 2, 1963 – October 18, 2025
Rebeca Peters was born on September 2, 1963, in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, to Jesus and Antonia Dominguez. At the young age of six, she and some of her siblings crossed the United States border with friends of her mother. She lived in the U.S. for about two years before her mother, herself, and some siblings were deported to Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Rebeca then lived with her father until she was about ten years old.
She returned to the U.S., where she completed 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. Before starting 7th grade, her mother convinced her father to send Rebeca and some of her siblings to a boarding school called Tesopaco, located in the mountains of Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico. She and her two brothers lasted only one year there.
Rebeca and her brother Santiago then moved to Tijuana to finish their secondary education at Escuela Salud y Saber. Afterward, she attended Colegio Tijuana in Playas de Tijuana, where she graduated as a preschool teacher in 1985.
She returned to California to live with her parents and enrolled at United Business School in Hollywood, CA, where she completed a course in Word Processing and worked at the school for about two years. Rebeca later became an Office Manager at Crest Paper Box in Gardena, CA, where she worked for eight years.
In 1990, while temporarily working at a Sizzler restaurant in Los Angeles, Rebeca met the love of her life, Wayne Peters. Four months after their first official date on April 11, 1990, Wayne proposed during a stroll on the beach in Ocean City, MD, on August 11, 1990—he got down on one knee, and of course, she said yes!
They were married the following year on August 11, 1991, at the Temple City Seventh-day Adventist Church in Temple City, CA, by Pastor Richard Dena.
In 1994, they welcomed their daughter Felicitas, followed by their son Clay in 1996. After Clay was born, Rebeca went on maternity leave and chose not to return to work, embracing her role as a Household Engineer. Their family grew again in 1998 with the arrival of their daughter Laressa. That same year, Wayne’s job relocated the family to Colorado, and on October 31, 1998, they moved into their first home in Founders Village, Castle Rock, CO, where they lived for three years.
On September 23, 2001, they moved to Castlewood Ranch, also in Castle Rock. Wayne and Rebeca had always dreamed of adopting a child, and in April 2003, they became foster parents to two boys, Devin and Justin. In October 2003, they learned that a baby boy—Jonathan, the biological brother of Devin and Justin—had been born in San Francisco. Jonathan joined the family in April 2004 at six months old. On August 11, 2005, all three boys officially became part of the Peters family.
Rebeca devoted herself to raising her six children and actively volunteered in their schools. She helped in classrooms, provided meals for teachers during conferences, and supported extracurricular activities. When Felicitas joined the band and marching band in high school, Rebeca became involved with the SIMBA parent group, organizing meals for trips, coordinating volunteers, and even catering the annual fundraising Gala for 150 guests. She continued volunteering while her younger children were in elementary and middle school.
In 2012, Rebeca began working as a substitute Educational Assistant at Flagstone Elementary and later expanded to other schools in Castle Rock. She remained available to support her children whenever needed. She also volunteered in the theater departments during Laressa’s last three years of high school and Jonathan’s middle school years.
In 2016, Rebeca transitioned from substituting to working part-time—and eventually full-time—as an Educational Assistant in the Special Needs Department. When Justin joined the band and marching band in high school, Rebeca returned as a volunteer, this time as a pit parent, helping move instruments during competitions and football games.
In February 2022, Rebeca was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She retired in May 2023 from a position she deeply loved.
Rebeca was preceded in death by her grandparents, her uncles and aunts on both sides of the family, her parents Jesus and Antonia Dominguez, her sister Elena Armenta, her brother Joel Dominguez, her nephew Daniel Sias, and her great-niece Ashley Sias.
She is survived by her loving husband Wayne Peters; her children Felicitas Peters, Clay Peters, Laressa Lindeen and her husband Daniel, Devin Peters, Justin Peters, and Jonathan Peters; and many cherished cousins (Dominguez, Guerrero, Peters & Chapman), aunts, and uncles (Chapman).
