Rich grew up in Castle Rock, CO where he graduated from Douglas County High School in 1971. He received his Bachelor's Degree of Liberal Arts from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO.
Rich met Susan at a party while he was visiting from college. It was an instant connection and the two were married December 23, 1974. They built a life of love where they traveled together, attended art shows and supported the Air Force Academy women's basketball team.
Rich enjoyed fly fishing, traveling, hanging with his grandbabies and BS'ing with his friends. He also found joy in boating, camping and being outdoors. He even enjoyed gardening, attending live music events and was an avid Broncos and Rockies fan.
Community was a major part of Rich's life. From owning a business in downtown Castle Rock for 50 years, serving as a volunteer fire chief in Palmer Lake, to serving on town council in Palmer Lake. Above all he treasured his family.
He is survived by his wife Susan Kuehster, children: Lindsay Aho and her husband Stephen Hand, Lauren Kuehster and her husband Luke Gibbons; grandchildren: Hunter Aho, Tinsley Aho, Matilda Kuehster; siblings: Luann Goodnow and her husband Mike, Steve Kuehster and his wife Mary.
A Celebration of Life for Curly will be held at Palmer Lake Town Hall, 42 Valley Crescent St., Palmer Lake, Colorado 80133, on October 5, 2026, beginning at 12:00 pm; bring a memory to share, and casual attire is encouraged.
