Sorry to read of Roger's death. I have fond memories of him and know assuredly of his vibrant faith in Christ. Will pray for you, June.

I have so many good memories of June and Roger having classes on family and marriage in their basement that my husband and I would attend. We really learned so much from God's word! He was always entertaining the missionaries in his home when they were on leave from the field. He work on so many projects at Camp Barakel while they were missionaries there! Later we would visit them when camping or at their home in West Branch. You were really blessed to be brought up in their home. May God comfort your hearts as only He can! Love and prayers, Mom

Roger and his sons built our home in 1979. He was the most honest and caring man we had ever met.We were young and inexperienced and he help and guided us thru the building process....thru the years we thought of him many times and the privilege of knowing him and his sons. RIP Roger Coggin.

It was such a blessing to know Roger and I will miss his laugh and smile.  He was always there at church to have a comment or two about his Bronco's team, while needling me about the Lions.  He even brought me some orange Bronco pom poms after he visited Denver one summer.

His love for God, and desire to be used by Him in any way was evident in his life, his marriage and all that he put his hand to.  I will miss him greatly, but know I will see him again in glory!

DAD

For those who may not have known my Dad except in his later years, allow me to share a few memories of a son.

Picture a small boy tossed high in the air, laughing without fear, sure in the knowledge he will land in his father's arms. The same boy, leaping to land in the footfalls of his father's long stride as we'd take a walk in a plowed field or a recent snow.  When my little legs would play out he'd sweep me up and deposit me on huge shoulders, and carry me.  The distance would fall away behind as I rode clinging to his chin, feeling the whiskers, like the sandpaper always found somewhere around in his carpenters truck.  To me as a small child his strength was limitless, and effortless.
What he gave me, was my first image of God.  He stood between me and all my fears, and I think I found my faith more readily because I had no trouble accepting a Heavenly Father who would use His great strength to rescue me from my sin.
As the years passed I began to know Dad differently.  When my eyes were swollen shut, my feet too sore to walk; covered with hives, he carried me to the couch each morning, checking on me before he went to work, and first thing when he got home.  Dad loved us all.  Regardless of the weather, he went to work to make sure we had what was needed; miserable heat, bitter cold, even when he was sick.  He spent himself on his family, a reflection of the One who loved us and gave Himself for us.
My Dad was a man who worked hard and found a way, or made one, but it takes even greater strength to put aside pride and face up to what you cannot do for yourself.  Before I was born my father accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.  By his example and his words he pointed me to the one who died for us so that we can have the sure hope of eternal life.
I remember as a boy trying to work with Dad.  One awful day well below zero he saw how cold I was.  I was numb.  He sent me to the truck and I thought I was being punished for not dressing sufficiently, as he would say.  Instead while there were so many things he needed to do, he stopped.  For at least ten minutes he held my small hands enfolded in his big ones, until he had drained every last chill out of them.  I know he quit early that day just for me.
He once told me life is the sum of the moments you live.  To all the fathers out there I commend my Dad.  This is the legacy a man can have, one to be proud of.  I challenge you and myself to follow in his footsteps.  The foundation of his life was his faith in God and His Son.  Beginning there he sowed his legacy one day at a time by putting others ahead of himself.
When I drove off to college I looked back to see my Dad crying in front of the garage door.  Never saw that before in my life.  I did see him cut his finger to the bone once.  I hit him in the head with a hammer, but I never saw him cry till then.   It was just the one time, and I hit him on the backswing; never saw him, and it was an accident.  I swore it then, and I swear it now.  I wouldn't lie about something like that, unless I absolutely had to.
The next time I saw him cry was when my brother died, and he prayed to God, thanking him for the privilege of being Matt's father.  He struggled to say the words I love you but he showed it.
We worked together, him, my brother and me.  Rain, or shine, heat or cold.  Hard days  Good days.  Days I'll never forget.  We moved and I'd call; ask for advice at times.  He'd offer thoughts, but tell me You know better than I, just know that I'm praying for you.  And he did.  Prayed us through starting life over again in Colorado, through my wife's cancer treatment, through marriage and fatherhood and building a business.  He prayed.
When the time and the age came when Mom and Dad needed our help, I asked him to come live with us.  He told me it just felt like all his strength was gone.  I told him it wasn't gone, he'd just passed it on to us, and we were passing it on to our kids.  I asked him to let us help.  We sat with him that night on his porch looking up at the night sky.  Dad didn't want to give up the familiarity of the home he'd fashioned with his own hands.  But then he rose up to show me real strength yet again.  He chose to do what was best for his family, no matter how much it hurt.  That, is a real man.
Life is the sum of the moments you live.  Dad lived so many great ones.  We all leave a legacy behind, and it's never too late to make the most of what we have.  Dad would count it an honor if his legacy pointed us all toward our Heavenly Father and a relationship with His Son.
Thanks for everything Dad.  You were my father, my friend, my teacher, and my hero.  I love you, and I will always be riding your shoulders.
