Roger Lee Lake was born on December 24, 1936, to Jack & Ellen Lake in Winona Minnesota. His youth was spent hunting and fishing and playing on the Mississippi River. Oh, the stories he would tell; from ice fishing, jumping bikes off the riverbanks to shooting ducks & geese. This formed his love of the outdoors & adventurous spirit.
After he graduated high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he honorably served his country. Stationed in Camp Pendleton CA he then traveled to South Korea and on to Japan during his three year tour. Following his military service, he headed out west with a military buddy and ended up in Taft, CA.
He attended Taft Community College earning his Associate’s Degree. He played football, worked for Garrett Electric & the Taft City Fire Department. After he finished college, he moved to Southern California to start his next adventure. While attending a dance at a local social club he met the love of his life Barbara Jean Lindy who he married in 1967. The two were married 52 years. Roger joined the El Segundo City Fire Department in 1968 retiring as an Engineer in 1990. After getting his dream job this new Lake Family welcomed a bouncing baby boy named Michael Roger. The Lake Family enjoyed many adventures with boating, motorcycles, hunting and fishing.
After retirement Roger and Barbara bought a Fifth wheel RV and began touring the country and making lots of friends along the way. All the while popping back to Colorado to see their kids and granddaughters, Rachael (34) and Sammi (26). They lived in California, Arizona, and finally settling in Colorado to be close to their family. After Barbara’s death in 2019 Roger enjoyed shooting Prairie Dogs, spending time making friends at the Castle Rock Senior Center, and Saturdays having a beer at “The Spur” a local watering hole. Roger spent time with his family boating on Lake Havasu and camping trips in the Mountains of Colorado. He went to the Sturgis Rally many times with Mike but not for the traditional reasons like Mike, but he would definitely get some time Prairie Dogging while they were there. Most Sundays were spent at Lake Ranch having dinner and spending time with family and of course his Granddaughters. He passed away June 21, 2026, at the age of 89. He is survived by his son Michael, and daughter-in-law Denise, granddaughters Rachael and Sammi, his new son-in-laws Jake and Trevor; his sister Joan Brown and nieces & nephew (Vicki, Suzie & Brian). Roger lived a long and happy life with many friends and lots of great adventures. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who new and loved him.
