The Celebration of Life Service for Ron Fullmer will be held Saturday May 4, at 1:00 at Christs Episcopal Church, 615 Fourth St., Castle Rock CO 80104, The Rev. Brian Winter presiding. It will also be available via Zoom. At a later time, gatherings to remember and celebrate Ron will be held with family and friends in Ohio and Oregon.
Ron was the second of Lester and Marcie Fullmer’s five children; he was born in Chicago and raised in Lima Ohio. Ron went to Ohio State University where he graduated with a B.S. Degree (Zoology major). He then taught high school biology before moving to Maine where he found much satisfaction working for the state department of Marine Resources. As part of that job, Ron began studying and working in the field of computer science, and subsequently received his Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of New Hampshire. He never tired of working in the rapidly developing field of software development and systems administration.
In his retirement, Ron looked forward to spending more time with his volunteer interests than work schedule had allowed. He persevered serving others even as aggressive cancer and the treatment of that cancer weakened his body. His spirit was willing even as his body weakened.
Ron was a frequent traveler to Haiti- more than 20 trips when he worked with teams of Haitians and US based teams to repair water wells, provide medical care, and share the joy of God's love with all those he encountered. At home in Colorado, he was a 20+ year committed Kairos Prison Ministry volunteer, and until his health precluded in person visits, he faithfully attended reunions and weekend long gatherings where all share the blessings and love of Christ for all his children. In Oregon, in addition to his numerous trips to Haiti, Ron volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and was glad to act out his conviction that helping our neighbors- near and far- is a joyful part of living a life of love.
Ron's love of animals, flora, all creation was a constant part of his life- every sunset was an inspiration, every creature a delight.... and every single doggie was his friend for life. Ron will be missed the many people his life touched, including his wife Janet, family including siblings Dick and Cheryl Fullmer, Jeannine and Les Bartley, Steve and Patty Fullmer, sister Anne (deceased) and Jeff Zickafoose, all his family of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and his family in spirit and heart- including church families, dear friends, brothers and sisters in Haiti, in prison, and throughout the world…so many lives intertwined and enriched by knowing and loving one another.
If supporting one of Ron's special passions for helping others is a way you'd like to honor him, Locally Haiti (formerly Colorado Haiti Project) is building a hospital in the rural town of Petit Trou de Nippes- and Ron was a keen supporter of that project. Kairos Prison Ministry also gratefully accepts donations to help fund the weekends in which God's Love is poured out upon those incarcerated- much of Ron's service was at Territorial Facility, in Canon City- donations can be made to Kairos of Colorado, https://www.kairosofcolorado.org.
Ron would wish the last words be... All is well. May Peace be with you.
