Littleton, CO/ Madison, WI - On Monday, March 29th, 2021 Ruby D. (Watters) Dorsey passed away peacefully at age 90 surrounded by family. Ruby was born in Viroqua, WI July 27th, 1930, to Ronald and Dottie (Hayter) Watters.

Ruby grew up in Beloit, graduating from Beloit Memorial High School. Having later contracted tuberculosis, she was a resident of Rock County’s TB Sanitarium. It was there she met and fell in love with another resident, Leo H. Dorsey of Janesville. Her plans to pursue an RN degree were put on hold as they were married September 8th, 1951. She was fully occupied in raising 9 children over the next 30 years while working full time, most of that time in or near DeForest, WI.

Her children revered her for the sacrifice and generosity she demonstrated toward them and toward others. Later, when time allowed, she earned an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene. Her lifelong dream to earn an RN Degree was achieved from Edgewood College in 1985 at age 55. She then worked at the Central Wisconsin Center until retirement.

She was a big fan of the Packers and any Wisconsin sports teams. She closely followed the NFL careers of former Badger standouts. She enjoyed birdwatching, especially the variety of hummingbirds at daughter, Jackie’s feeders. She also enjoyed listening to her collection of Irish music. Other fond memories include travel to Ecuador, Peru, The Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and Morocco with dear friend, Carol Barry, to visit family as well as a tour of Ireland. Family reunions in 2010 and 2020 to celebrate her 80th and 90th birthdays also brought her treasured memories.

Survivors include: a sister LaVera Delaney of Aurora, CO and children James (Barbara) Dorsey of Brooklyn, WI, Joseph (Carol) Dorsey of Falls Church, VA, Stephen (Susan) Dorsey of Littleton, CO, Robert (Jenny) Dorsey of Ft Atkinson, WI, Theresa (James) Stephens of Allen, TX, Jackie Dorsey of Littleton, CO, and Christopher (Amy) Dorsey of Sedalia, CO. She also enjoyed 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Leo, a twin son at birth, a daughter Cathryn (Wayne) Tatusko of Annandale, VA, a son William (Linda) Dorsey of Ft. Worth, TX, sisters Myrna, Eilene, Carol and Pam, and by brothers Harry and LaVerne.

There are numerous reasons I love my/our grandma and am thankful for the 33 years I got to spend with her on this earth.
I’ll just share three of my favorites.

When I was growing up, I loved going to her house on Piccadilly Drive and how it always felt like being welcomed home. Whether it was Christmas Eve with the smell of lasagna and everyone piling into the living room or sitting around on a Sunday afternoon cheering on the Packers, her welcoming love and laughter are memories I will treasure forever.
I am also grateful for her because she was present. She took an active interest in being in the lives of her grandkids, near and far, which was an investment which I’ve come to appreciate even more so over time. My memories of violin recitals, birthdays, Christmas pageants, and graduations have her love, hugs, and encouragement woven into them. For her presence in shaping my life, I am truly grateful.
She was also an amazing grandma because she was a loving mother-in-law, who loved my mom well.
Grandma, your life on earth has ended, which means you are so very missed and my heart hurts, so today I am also thankful for the hope of resurrection through Jesus Christ and knowledge that I will see you again. Love you and miss you ❤️ Carla

For my Grandma Ruby...
I am so lucky to have had your guidance and wisdom just a phone call away for the last 40 years. You are a shining example of a life well lived. Having raised 9 unique and amazing humans that you revered for their individuality was quite the accomplishment. I have always admired your beauty inside and out, your gentle and kind nature, your excitement for life, your fearlessness to learn and grow as a person, and most of all your ability to love. Miss you more than words can say and know you will be providing a watchful eye from above.

To my family...
In this world where everyone and everything seems to become more divided with each passing moment, embrace one another’s individuality. Agree to disagree when applicable. Brush off the bad days and persevere. It takes but just a moment to adjust your perspective and see things through a different lense. Offer grace and patience with one another. This great, BIG family that Grandma and Grandpa created leaves us vulnerable to BIG losses but Grandma Ruby knew the blessings of this great, BIG, beautiful family far exceeds the bad. Love you all.

My beautiful, kind and gentle Aunt. You always had time to listen, laugh or dry tears and be there for me as a child. I always liked to visit Uncle Leo and you. Your home was filled with children full of love , kindness and caring for all who entered. I will always remember your beautiful smile and positive attitude you carried throughout your life.
Rest in Peace

My beloved sister who shared so much with me over the years. We often cleaned house and completed chores together so we could attend high school games.

You have always had the time to listen to me and guide me in a positive direction on a variety of topics. I will hold you dear in my heart forever. God bless you and keep you safe in his arms.

Love you, LaVera
