

Sandra Kay Freedman, 77, of Castle Rock, Colorado passed away, Friday, September 15, 2017 at her home in Castle Rock. Mrs. Freedman was born July 7, 1940, in Poplar Bluff to Bernard and Mary Wheetley. She grew up as a member of First Baptist Church, Poplar Bluff, and graduated in 1958 from Poplar Bluff High School. After graduation she atttended Baylor University and played in the Baylor Golden Wave Band. It was at Baylor and in the Band that she met her future husband, James W. (Jim) Freedman. They were married on January 9, 1965. Because Mr. Freedman is an ordained Baptist Minister, Mr. and Mrs. Freedman served churches in Gatesville, Texas; Waxahachie, Texas; Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Corpus Christi, Texas, and Houston, Texas. They continued serving in the Houston area for thirteen years, and Mrs. Freedman taught 8th Grade History at Kingwood Middle School. After Houston they lived in Franklin, Tenessee for 14 years before retiring and moving back to Poplar Bluff. For the next 10 years they served as Minister to Senior Adults at the church.
Sandra always enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren, traveling, reading, cooking, attending the theater, directing theater, and, of course, serving the Senior Adults at First Baptist Church.
Survivors incude her husband, Jim, of Castle Rock, Colorado; her sons, Kevin and wife Cheri of Corvallis, Oregon, and Kyle and wife Jennifer of Castle Rock, Colorado; grandchildren: Kyndall, Kaiden, Kelby, and Keane all of Castle Rock, Colorado and Parker and Paxton of Corvallis, Oregon; a sister, Susan Wheetley of Porter, Texas; nieces Tracey Hall and husband Keith of Poplar Bluff and Trisha White and husband Michael of Valencia, California; and
nephews Davis White, Braden White, Dylan Hall, and Cameron Hall. Her parents, Bernard Ralph and Mary Alice Short Wheetley, and a sister, Sharon G. Davis,
preceded her in death.
A JOY Gathering similar to those Mrs. Freedman helped to prepare and conduct every month, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. Her husband, Jim, and son, Kyle, will lead the JOY Gathering.
