

Shirley was born on May 5, 1936, in Eastonville, CO to Ralph and Lola Staley. When Shirley was three, the family moved to a ranch Northwest of Kiowa, CO where she attended school until marriage.
At the age of 16, Shirley married the love of her life, Darrel Abbey in Raton New Mexico with Shirley’s mother, Lola, as a witness. The couple settled in Kiowa and raised two children, Polly and Bruce. Shirley and Darrel ran several grocery stores in partnership, and eventually focused their efforts on one store, the Kiowa Superette which they had and ran together as a couple for 30 years total.
Shirley enjoyed traveling with her most notable trips being Anchorage and Kodiak Island Alaska twice, Hawaii, Branson, many camping trips across Colorado and she even slipped into Mexico once with her husband and friends for an adventure.
Shirley was proceeded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lola Staley, her sisters and brothers in-laws, Wanda and Phil Tintle, Nelda and Bud Bishop, her brother Joe and sister-in-law Ruth Staley, sister and brother in laws LaVonne and Walt Maul, Keith Abbey and nephews Rodney Staley and Bud Abbey. She is survived by her husband Darrel, daughter Polly, son in law Mike, her son Bruce, daughter in law Brenda and grandkids Daniel Everett, Ashley Gelroth, Rebecca Abbey, Alaina Abbey. She also leaves behind several close cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews and many friends. She also leaves behind her wild yard rabbit, Bun Bun, the 135th generation ;)
