"Sonny" Herman Christian Cordes, age 85, of Concord, California passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 in Castle Rock, Colorado. He was born in Jamestown, California in the Jamestown Hotel on June 15, 1938 to Herman and Catherine Cordes.
He graduated Mt. Diablo High School in 1956. In high school he participated in the Blue Devil's Marching Band and baseball. Immediately after graduating he enlisted in the US Air Force on July 16. He spent the majority of his time stationed in Hawaii where he played for the Air Force softball team, The Flyers. He was an electronic communication equipment repairman (Elec Com Eqp Rpmn) and received the good conduct medal.
He met Char at Shakey's Pizza Parlor in Concord, CA. They were married for 51 and a half years and raised five wonderful children. They enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling. He coached all his kids sports teams. His greatest passion was spending time with his family. Teaching his children how to shoot, ride motorcycles, enjoy life to the fullest, become independent and love others.
Some of his fondest memories were his yearly trips to Bodega Bay, California to spend a week drinking, clamming, and crabbing with his buddies.
He retired from PG&E after 35 years and bought a motorhome, sold the house and hit the road for 23 years. They traveled to places such as Canada, Mexico and most of the US. After retiring from the road, they retired to Castle Rock, CO, to live with their youngest son, and his favorite daughter-in-law. He enjoyed his road retirement tinkering in the garage, growing tons of tomatoes in his beautiful garden. He was not one to sit, he was always busy. He enjoyed football games, and his love for the 49ers was beyond measure, and his love for Nascar second runner up.
Together they had 5 children, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren and number 6 on the way.
