Stanley A. Van Putten, passed away peacefully at Life Care Center in Westminster, CO, on January 3, 2024, at the age of 94. Stan was born in Cape1 Township, Sioux County, Iowa to Albert Van Putten and Margaret (Poppen) Van Putten on October 13, 1929.
Stan joined the Navy right out of high school. Most of his service time was spent in the Pacific (China and Japan) during the occupation after WWII officially ended. During his service he earned 4 medals; the China Service Medal; Navy Occupation Medal, Asiatic Clasp and the Good Conduct Medal. After being discharged from the Navy, Stan married his high school sweetheart, Betty I. Hilfers in 1950. Stan was active in his community through the Rotary, Presbytery and his church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and music. Stan had a great sense of humor and the ability to make friends wherever he went.
Stan is preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Clarence Van Putten. Stan is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Betty I. (Hilfers) Van Putten, his three daughters and three sons-in-law: Vicki Johnson (Dave), Robin Nelson (Brad) and Kris McAllister (Steve); four grandchildren, Samantha Duggan (Sean), Joe Nelson, Carrie McAllister and Bryan McAllister; and one great-grandson, Connor Duggan. He is also survived by his sister Darlene (Van Putten) Kempema and his brother Kenneth Van Putten. He leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
A private, family only, service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, CO 80236. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are: Samantha Duggan, Joseph Nelson, Carrie McAllister, Bryan McAllister, David Johnson, Brad Nelson, Steve McAllister.
The Memorial Service will be held at Green Mountain Presbyterian Church (12900 W. Alameda Pkwy, Lakewood, CO - 303.985.8733) on January 22, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend the memorial service. A reception will be held immediately following the service.
