

Steve Benz passed away peacefully at his home with his wife Teresa, daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Brian by his side on August 31st, 2023. Steve was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and friend. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 7, 1960, son of the late Art and Doris Benz, and younger brother to Ken Benz.
Steve grew up in St. Louis and enjoyed playing golf and tennis, as well as participating in the band and having a band of his own. Steve attended the University of Missouri - St. Louis where he studied communications and marketing. During this time Steve worked as a radio host for the university’s late night radio show. This was a job that Steve loved and remembered fondly. Steve was fortunate to have many lifelong friends from his time at Normandy high school and UMSL. With a passion for music and TV, Steve spent many years after college working in the industry that he loved.
In 1989, Steve met his true love Teresa. They later got married on July 7th, 1990. During their courtship and start of their marriage, they enjoyed going out with friends, attending concerts, and going to Cardinals games. In 1994 Steve welcomed his first and only child with Teresa, Elizabeth. Elizabeth was his “Bean” and was the light of his life.
In 2004 Steve, Teresa and Elizabeth started the adventure of a lifetime when they moved to Colorado. Steve fell in love with Colorado, exploring the mountains and all of the local breweries. In 2005, Steve and Teresa welcomed their second child - a fur child and pet dog named MO. MO was truly man’s best friend for a full 15 years.
Steve was a dedicated and loving family member. He enjoyed music, movies, food, and spending time with his loved ones up until his very last day. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and selfless demeanor.
Steve is survived by his wife Teresa, daughter Elizabeth (Brian), brother Ken (Jeania), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends that he loved dearly.
A memorial will be held at Olinger Andrew’s Caldwell Gibson Chapel in Castle Rock, Colorado on September 10th at 11am. A luncheon will follow at Wild Blue Yonder from 12:15 -2:15 after the service.
