Warren Karl Nilsson, Jr. was born in Glendale, CA on January 7th, 1943. His father worked for Martin Marietta during WWII and built fighter planes. When Warren was three, the family relocated to Lincoln, NE, to the suburb known as Havelock. Warren stayed in the Lincoln area, beginning work for Lincoln Telegraph and Telephone (LT&T) in 1961. LT&T helped Warren go to college at the University of Nebraska, where he graduated in 1971.
He married Margaret Manke on July 27th, 1963, and they were blessed with a son, Ken, two years later. The family moved to Colorado in 1971 and two years later were blessed with a daughter, Karen. Warren worked for Mountain Bell, which would become US West. He retired from US West in 1996. He later worked in the jewelry department at Kohls, fixing watches, for eight years before his second retirement.
In Lincoln, a fellow employee at LT&T sold Warren a 1965 Corvette and a lifelong passion began. Warren would go on to own seven Corvettes during his lifetime. Another passion of his was model trains. He was an avid collector of model trains, and the family always knew what to get him for a gift. Warren had several favorite places, two of which were Casper, Wyoming and Barcelona, Spain.
Warren’s daughter believes another job her father could have done was to be a Pastor. He loved Jesus and the Bible and delighted in telling people stories about both. He was a consummate storyteller. His son reports that when he stayed with his dad for three days recently, his father told stories the entire time and never repeated a single one. Warren was confident in his place in Heaven and as his health declined, he looked forward to that move more and more.
Warren is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Nilsson; a son and daughter in law, Ken and Julie Nilsson; and a daughter, Karen Nilsson. Warren died on August 14th, 2022. He will be unreplaceable.
