

Anne E Poehler, age 90, of Catonsville, Maryland passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023. She was the wife of the late Theodore Otto Poehler, Jr., beloved mother of Theodore O. Poehler, III and partner Susan Gustavsson and Jeffrey C. Poehler and wife Kirsten Boswell, beloved grandmother of Garrett L. and Jordan E. Poehler.
Anne was born on April 12, 1933 in Philadelphia to Dr. Arthur L. Evans and Elizabeth Otter (Betty) Evans. As a young child, Anne lived in Red Lion , Pennsylvania and Dagsboro, Delaware. Her family moved to Towson, Maryland in the early 1940's, where Anne spent most of her childhood. Anne was a graduate of Towson High School and the University of Maryland, where she majored in Spanish and played the clarinet in the marching band. In high school, Anne began playing tennis at age 17, which became a lifetime passion. A highlight of her marching band career was playing in the inaugural parade for Dwight D. Eisenhower.
After graduating from college, Anne worked as a teacher's assistant in private schools. In 1961, Anne married Theodore Otto (Ted) Poehler, Jr., a physicist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.
Anne and Ted would be married for almost 55 years before Ted's passing in 2016. In 1963, the couple welcomed their first son Ted, and in 1965 their second son, Jeff was born.
Anne was a homemaker, concentrating on raising her sons. The family resided in Catonsville, Maryland for over fifty years. In addition to raising her sons, Anne began to volunteering at local hospitals in the 1970's, most prominently Kernan Hospital, where she was a volunteer for over 40 years. Anne mainly worked at the gift shop at Kernan, where she brought smiles to the faces of innumerable visitors, patients and staff. Anne also continued to pursue her love for tennis as a longtime member of St. Timothy's Club in Catonsville. Some of Anne's other hobbies included cross-stich, gardening, reading, and crossword puzzles. Anne maintained a beautiful rock garden in front of her house for many years.
A visitation for Anne will be held Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc., 1630 Edmondson Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228. A funeral service will occur Monday, November 6, 2023 from 11:00 AM at the funeral home. A graveside service will occur Monday, November 6, 2023 from 2:00 PM at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Rd., Timonium, MD 21093.
