On July 7, 2018 Carmella “Carm” Ann D’Amelio passed away. Carm was born on January 12, 1934 in Cohoes, NY. She graduated from Thomas R. Proctor High School in 1951 in Utica, NY. On August 28, 1954, she was married to Anthony D’Amelio in St. Anthony’s Church in Utica, NY.
Beloved wife of the late Anthony “Tony” D’Amelio; loving mother of son, David D’Amelio and his wife Melissa D’Amelio, and daughter Diane D’Amelio Chmel and her fiance Michael Johnson; Cherished grandmother of Corinne, Chelsea, and Connor Chmel, and Alexandra, Jessica, and Michael D’Amelio.
She was employed at National Auto Stores Inc, Savage Arms and General Electric in Utica, NY. She was also employed at International General Electric in Puerto Rico while her husband was in the service.
After her children were in school full time, she returned to work at Historic Old St. John’s Church in Utica, NY where she worked for 20 years as a secretary and book-keeper.
Carm and her husband moved to Ellicott City, MD in 1986. She was a member of the Howard County Sons of Italy and American Legion Madeira Beach, FL.
She leaves one sister, Mary Dapice of Palm Bay, FL and brother-in-law, Louis D’Amelio of Utica, NY and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Anthony D’Amelio, brother Andrew Mondo, sister Josephine White, her father Anthony Mondo and mother Salvatora “Sally” Mondo.
Carm spent her last years in the Charlestown Community cheerfully amongst her many friends. She was the leader of the Lighthouse of Prayer Group and involved with the garden committee. Always full of information, she was incredibly welcoming to new residents. She also enjoyed attending theatre with her friends from Charlestown.
Carm had a cheerful spirit and a beautiful smile. She was incredibly giving and welcomed others with open arms.
Always well-dressed with a beautiful sense of style, she enjoyed entertaining, hosting holidays, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Carm enjoyed traveling on many lovely cruises with Tony.
Carm was very proud of her Italian heritage and upbringing. She loved Sunday dinners with her family enjoying homemade sauce, meatballs, and pasta and passing on her secret recipes.
A proud and loving mother, grandmother, and devoted wife of 59 years, she will be forever loved and greatly missed.
