

On February 18, 2025; Edward M. “Ed” Arnold; beloved husband of the former Dolores Ruth Arnold for 71 years; loving father of Stephen Arnold, Michael Arnold and wife Kim, Richard Arnold and wife Jackie, and James Arnold and wife Patty; Devoted grandfather of Kristen Arnold, Katie Arnold, Elizabeth James and husband Ryan, Brandon Arnold and wife Michele, Lindsey Arnold, Mallory Arnold, Shane Arnold and wife M.C., Caroline Harrison and husband Tighe, Luke Arnold, Alyssa Arnold and Kyle Nicholas Arnold; cherished great grandfather of Nevaeh, Lily, Hattie, Kyle William, Ryan, Taylor, Quinn, Beau, and Luella.
Ed was the only child of Edna and Milton Arnold and attended Polytechnic Institute in the Advanced College Prep course and graduated February 1949. He enjoyed playing baseball and basketball with the “Mallow Hill” gang in the Irvington/Catonsville area and he was a pitcher for Poly and Johns Hopkins. He earned his Bachelors of Electronics Engineering degree from Johns Hopkins University in June of 1952.
Ed married Dottie on August 23, 1952 at St. William of York Roman Catholic Church.
He joined the U.S. Army and attended The U.S. Army Engineering School in Fort Belvoir, Virginia and certificated in November 1952. He was deployed to Korea for the Korean war after his certification and was honorably discharged as Captain February, 1954. He continued in the US Army Reserves until 1964.
While in Korea he started as staff Electrical Engineer in Headquarters, 2nd Logistics Command, and later, Headquarters, Korean Communications Zone in Korea. The scope of this effort involved his supervision of power distribution systems, design of small sub-station installations, supervising the actual construction, and detailed engineering planning for future requirements of all of South Korea. For his work, Ed was awarded the Bronze Star medal for meritorious service at the end of the war.
During his service in the U.S. Army, he earned the following honors:

After Ed’s time with the U.S. Army, he went on to earn the following degrees:
Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University in 1960
Masters of Engineering Administration from George Washington University in 1964
Professional Engineers and Land Survey Certificate in 1967
Ed then started a career with the Westinghouse Defense and Electronic Systems Center, Baltimore, Maryland that lasted for twenty-six years with his last eight years of which had been with TCOM Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Westinghouse. He served as President of TCOM from January of 1980 until December of 1983. He retired in 1983 which was the result a major stroke.
During his professional career at Westinghouse
He:
-served 6 years as Design Engineer responsible for the design of recorder, power supply, synchronizer, sweep and airborne moving target indicator (AMTI) circuitry for Side Looking Radar Systems such as APQ-56 and APQ-57. In addition, responsible for design of receivers/transmitters for DPN-34 and DPN-53 radar systems for the BOMARC missile.
-served three years as Senior Engineer responsible for design of high-powered transmitters and associated equipment for the Mid-West Program for Airborne Television Instruction (Stratovision).
-served three years as Supervisory Engineer in charge of electronics design and development for APD-7 radar systems.
-served four years as the Section Manager and Program Manager Involved in Reconnaissance and Surveillance Radar Systems such as APD-7, APQ-97 and APD-8 radar systems.
-served two years as Section Manager, Westinghouse Defense and Electronics Systems Center, for Battle Surveillance and Imaging Radar Systems with responsibilities for the UPD=5 radar program, APD-8 radar program and radar programs such as Egyptian Goose, Pocket Veto, and Seek Skyhook.
-served seven years as Vice President, TCOM Corporation, that included:
* two years with responsibility for the Program Development Division’s Activities.
*three years with responsibility for the TCOM Nigerian Program, a nationwide telecommunications and broadcast system for the Republic of Nigeria.
*two years with responsibility for the Engineering Division’s activities.
His career at Westinghouse led to serving as President of TCOM (a Subsidiary of Westinghouse) where he spearheaded multi-million-dollar projects in Nigeria and South Korea.
Ed and Dottie lived their entire married life in Catonsville – a community that they truly loved. Their retirement years were spent at Charlestown Retirement Community.
Family will receive friends on Friday; March 14th from 5 PM- 8 PM at Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc., 1630 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville, Maryland 21228, and from 10 AM till 10:30 AM on Saturday; March 15th followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Charlestown Retirement Community, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, Maryland 21228. Interment in New Cathedral Cemetery.
