She is the beloved daughter of Barbara Rankin Brakebill of Frederick, MD and the late James H. Brakebill, III; dear sister of J. Scott Brakebill (Katy) of Woodsboro, MD and John W. Brakebill (Beth) of Towson, MD.
Born April 28, 1961 in Raleigh, NC, Lisa and her family settled in Frederick, MD in 1967 where she graduated from Gov. Thomas Johnson High in 1979. She earned a bachelor's degree from the Univ. of MD Baltimore Co. and Masters Degree in Social Work.
Lisa was employed by the Social Services Departments in Baltimore and Frederick. She also worked for many years at the Alzheimer's Association in Baltimore. After relocating to North Carolina, she finished her career with Adult Protective Services of Gaston Co. While there, Lisa lived in her family homestead built by her mother's ancestors in 1895. She moved back to Maryland in 2024, and became a resident at Charlestown Senior Living in Catonsville.
Being a caretaker came naturally to Lisa. She devoted years to looking after others in her community, as well as aging family members. Lisa was a devout Christian, serving in church organizations and prayer groups for the better part of her adult life. She was also an avid animal lover who took in numerous cats and dogs over the years. She is survived by two cats, Purrdy and Dickens, who have been placed into the care of Carroll County Humane Society to find new loving homes.
Lisa's greatest joy was being an aunt to her nieces and nephews. She embraced the role proudly, and was dedicated to supporting them in their endeavors. Lisa is survived by three nieces and one nephew; Kristy Houck (Jake), Elizabethtown PA, Tim Brakebill (Kaylyn), Eureka, NC, Amy Brakebill, Charlottesville, VA, and Holly Brakebill, Arlington, VA. She is also survived by one great nephew and three great nieces; Ben & Gracie Brakebill, Camden, NC., and Anna & Madi Houck, Elizabethtown, PA.
The Brakebill family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, social workers, and caregivers of St. Agnes Hospital, MedStar Harbor Hospital, Charlestown Senior Living, Visiting Angels, and accentCare Hospice. Their dedication to the well-being of our dear Lisa was integral in helping her and our family through this difficult time.
