On February 23, 2025, Emily Alice Winstead, beloved daughter of Nathaniel and Jennifer Winstead of Catonsville, MD passed away peacefully in her sleep at home after a lengthy illness. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother Benjamin, sisters Caroline and Anna; grandparents Trudy and Powell Winstead of Winston-Salem, NC; aunts Anna Beelaert (Mark) of Littleton, CO, Linda Weaver-Burack (Gene) of Stevensville, MD; and cousins Sarah and Charles. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Andy and Shirley Weaver. She was 25 years old.
Emily graduated from Roanoke College in 2021 where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. While pursuing her undergraduate studies, she also worked as a medical scribe for Carilion Memorial Hospital pursuing her lifelong passion of a career in the medical field. Emily had a particular passion to see more women become doctors and her lifelong dream was to become one herself. To that end, she was attending the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) in Spartanburg, SC before her illness forced her to withdraw.
She was listed for a multi-organ transplant when she passed away.
Emily was a bright and shining star to all who knew her. She never gave up to the end and finished the race well. She is now feasting in heaven with her Savior. She will be greatly missed by all.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Donate Life America, https://donatelife.net/ , an organization dedicated to increasing the number of organ donors for those, like Emily, waiting for transplants.
A Celebration of Life service for Emily will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Columbia Presbyterian Church, 10001 State Route 108, Columbia MD 21044. The service will also be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/live/f2B99DDOYg4 .
