Mrs. Helen McSorley Evans

On January 19, 2011, Helen Mathilda McSorley Evans , beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Evans; cherished mother of Kimberly Haker and her husband, Kevin; adored grandmother of Kyle and Kate Haker; she is also survived by her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jane and Will Boyer, Dorothy Lee and the late Ray Evans, and Lois and the late Bud Walton; her uncle and aunts, Donald and Juanita McSorley and Betty McSorley; numerous nieces, nephews;great nieces and nephews and McSorley cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Mary McSorley; her "Mom", Lillian Evans; and father-in-law, Ray Evans. For the past several years Helen, a Catonsville resident, was in the care of the loving and skilled staff of LookAbout Manor in Westminster, MD. Since 1955, she had been a member of West Baltimore United Methodist Church where she served in many areas ranging from teaching youth and attending Sunday School to her commitment to the missions work of the United Methodist Women. She earned an Associate in Arts degree in 1987. Professionally, her work included working in early computer operations for USF&G of Baltimore and, later, for many years served in several accounting and management functions, for Garvey Plumbing and Heating, formerly of Ellicott City. She also enjoyed her years as a leader for Girl Scout Troop 1189. Outside of her tremendous devotion to her family and church, her passions included; reading, crossword puzzles, playing with her grandchildren, going to the beach and walking.

Relatives and Friends are invited to call at the Sterling Ashton Schwab Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc. 1630 Edmondson Ave. Catonsville, Md 21228 on Sunday from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral Service will be on Monday 11:00am. at West Baltimore United Methodist Church 5130 Greenwich Ave. Catonsville, Md 21228. Interment will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011, 2:30 PM, at MD Veterans Cemetery Garrison Forest.
