My brother in law, Jim, aka The Big Guy, was one of a kind. He was a gentleman, a father, a loving husband, uncle and one of the nicest most sincere people I ever met. Always there to help, lend a hand and add support and knowledge in any way he could. His endurance and fortitude battling kidney disease made him a super hero in my book. I will miss him and remember him always.

One of my most vivid memories of Uncle Jim was when he told Grandma he'd take her (along w/ me and my mom) to whatever restaurant she wanted for Mother's Day. To his horror, she decided on Friendly's. (I think he had thought she'd pick somewhere a little more upscale -- ok, a LOT more upscale.) Even though he was appalled, he took us all to Friendly's. Well, between it being Mother's Day and that location's notoriously bad management, the wait staff didn't exactly exhibit much speed, or competence, or even regret for forgetting to take our orders, then forgetting to serve us. Meanwhile, the whole time, Uncle Jim is repeating, "Shaky service. Definitely shaky service," in his most displeased, though low key, tone. Grandma had a good time, because she was with family, but I don't think Uncle Jim ever let her pick a restaurant again.

I met Jim when we both were young and he managed a sewing dept at our company. I was impressed with the way that his team respected him and also that he knew how to do every part of every job in his department himself.
He also had vision to see how to improve to help make things better. Our company was moving to a great new complex and warehouse. As Jim was driving and as he held the car's ridged steering wheel, he invented the knurled rail and storage rack system that held clothing hangers at 2 inches apart for air flow and yet could be easily gathered in bunches for removal.
The idea was patented by the company and soon the entire tailored clothing industry was using his idea to store and move clothing.
But mainly, Jim was a wonderful human being and you always felt that you worked WITH Jim and not for him, even though he was at the top of the organizational chart as President.
He was a great friend at all times and we shared uncountable happy memories together.
He will be greatly missed by all who ever had the pleasure to know him.

Since leaving Scotland in1970,Jim was the kindest most companionate person l ever worked for. We travelled the world together.
His happy nature made my life full off laughter and joy.Whilst at Schoneman he was always open to new ideas and made the company like a family.
He will be missed by many .Kathleen and I
Send our deepest sympathy and love to his familyand pray that he he will be in a better place than us.
Ernie and Kathleen Hume.
