He was known to my cousins as both Uncle Yucky and Ffej. My kids and my sister’s children knew him as Pop-Pop. They adored him & he adored them.
Dad & Mom raised Ellen and me in Baltimore, so obviously we were Colts & Orioles fans, and remain Ravens and Orioles fans. Some of my best memories are of Memorial Stadium with Dad.
The greatest gift my parents gave me was the gift of knowing my extended family. Both Ellen and I have great cousins, uncles & aunts. We were also very close to our grandparents . These relationships past & present had a lot to do with Dad’s love for family.
Jeff was a devoted civil servant employed by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for 39 years. Upon retirement he had 2 years of accumulated sick leave. He made and still has many friends he made from his SSA years. Dad & Mom were both long time members of Faith Presbyterian Church of Baltimore. Many of their Faith friends, their children (and probably their children as well) are members as well.
After Mom (Bess) died, Dad was lucky again to find a great partner. Laura took great care of him and did for him what few people could. When I visited, I usually said to her, “Sit down, he can get it himself!” My Dad would have died much sooner without her help and love.
Jeff played a lot of bridge and got a bit of traveling in. He and Chris and Pete made it to Italy and Hawaii. He made another trip to England and Ireland. His last big trip was to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, for his granddaughter’s wedding, December 2023. We talked most Sundays about the ups & downs of life. My son, Ben, didn’t get a chance to see him this year, but wrote to me, “My memory of Pop-Pop holds a very special place in my heart. I love you & I miss you, Pop-Pop. Thank you for everything you did for me.”
Jeff was the beloved husband of the late Bess Lumianski; dear partner of Laura; loving father of Joe Lumianski (Sudie) and Ellen Strong; devoted grandfather of Erica Miller (Garrett), Ben Lumianski, K. Michael Strong, Nick Strong, and Sami Strong; adored great grandfather of Jace Miller, Annabelle Strong, Hadley Strong, and Piper Strong; cherished brother of Jerry Lumianski (Maryann), Peter Lumianski (Christine), and Mary Renshaw (Claude). Jeff is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services are private. Arrangements by Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeff’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation, Attn: Gift Processing at National Kidney Foundation HQ, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
Dad, you will be sorely missed by friends and family. Peace be with you. Love from us all, Joe.
