John Yoon, a resident of Catonsville, MD, passed away too soon on Tuesday, February 5th, 2019 at the University of Maryland Medical Center. The son of Douglas and Sara Yoon, he was born in Silver Spring, MD, on September 4th, 1991. Although only 27 at the time of his death, John had a profound and lasting effect on the many people in his life.

He was deeply committed to building a life together with his fiancé, working in a field he was passionate about, and always learning new things. He was dedicated and extremely loyal to his family and friends.

John graduated from UMBC and recently completed two Master’s degree programs in Systems Engineering and Business Administration, with a PhD as his ultimate goal. He was currently working at T.Rowe Price.

A loving son, brother, fiancé and friend, he will be dearly missed. What he loved most was being with his family and friends. John had an amazing sense of humor and loved to laugh. He put everyone around him at ease with his affection and warmth. Those who knew him, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives.

He is survived by his parents Douglas and Sara Yoon, as well as his siblings Michelle, Joe and Hannah Yoon, and his fiancé Angellina Lee and her family in Baltimore County. John was predeceased by his paternal grandfather and maternal grandparents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9th from 3:00-6:30 pm at Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home.

I've known John since the freshman year of college and from the get go we could talk for hours about life and serious things to super stupid and small things. He was always willing to listen and give his honest opinion if you wanted it. I'm very saddened to know that he is no longer with us and all I can do is send my condolences to his family and cherish the memories I have with him from kinda studying in the rlc, to driving randomly to Baltimore to get halal guys. You have no idea how much you'll be missed. We love you John. I know you're looking down and smiling that big grin you always gave us

Every time I met John, he had a smile on his face. He would reach out from the crowd or whoever we were around to speak with me. We shared funny conversations and deep ones as well. If I had one word to describe him it would be: genuine. I remember when he taught me the “learning game”. Crazy late night adventures in DC and white water rafting (I think he fell in lol). John will be missed and has a very special place in my heart. Keep smiling buddy...

Joseph and Hannah had just gotten married and friends and family joined in for an after party at the house. During our gathering, John decided to tell us all a story about the time his big brother Joe stood up for him on the school bus in elementary school. He was full of joy, with a smile on his face the entire time. His feelings were contagious, we all knew he said every word just full of love. I always saw him as the little brother of one of my best and oldest friends. Even after he grew to be much taller than me, whenever I saw him it would take me back to early high school sleeping over at their house, waking up and catching him on a computer playing counter strike on the pc. He mentioned one time later on in our years that when he saw me it took him back to our younger years when we would just be hanging out. Seeing him always reminded me about one of the happiest times of my life. He’ll always be family to me.

This was from a Holiday Party, December 2016. I think we were playing beer pong when I asked if we could all take a picture together. I’m so sorry for your loss. John will be truly missed.
