Joseph Kennard Rial was called upon to answer many challenges and struggles during his life time, and yet he never became bitter or hardened by life. During his early years he and a sibling were left in an orphanage during the depression because family was unable to feed or care for them. Eventually they were brought home while still in their childhood years. However difficult life was for him personally, our father, forever kind, was most often described by those who loved him best as a gentle soul who searched for the good in others.
He served his country only for a short time due to an injury. Once he was released from service, he pursued his passion for electronics, following a career with NASA at Cape Canaveral during our countries early space travel (Saturn/Apollo).
He was married only once, to Doris W. Bruner (nee Whetstone). Although the marriage did not last, the children who came from that union, he would attest, were his most stellar accomplishments. Although shy and always uncomfortable with public affection, he maintained a loving relationship with each of them to the very end. He was generous and cared and provided financially for extended family members throughout his life. Fond childhood memories of "goody packages" and "goody money" fill his children's hearts today as the goodys once filled their bellies.
Joseph also had a gift and love for music. Participating in a barbershop quartet in his younger years, he wrote, sang and played music for family and friends. Among his and also his children's favorites was "You are my Sunshine" which they last sang together at a recent visit with Dad joining joyfully in the chorus.
He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard Walter Rial and Almira Grace Rial(Nee Kennard), and siblings: Walter B. Rial, Mary Almira Rial, Leonard K. Rial, Charles Carson Rial and Francis Xavier Rial.
