Mary Helena Miller Hall was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother during her incredible 95 years of life. She passed away on June 14, 2025, and is now safe in the arms of her Lord.
Mary was born on November 27, 1929, to George H. Miller Sr. and Germaine Winchester Miller. The youngest of five siblings, she was raised in the Walbrook neighborhood of Baltimore. In her youth, she loved bowling, dancing, and was an active member of St. Cecilia's Church and the Mission Crusaders Group. After graduating from Seton High School (Class of 1948), Mary was a homemaker while raising her four beloved children. Later in life, Mary went on to have a 22-year career with The Hecht Company.
Mary exemplified the principle that it is more blessed to give than to receive. She was utterly devoted to her family and faithfully attended the countless games, concerts, and school events of her 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Despite living on a fixed budget, Mary could always be found after every game asking her grandchildren and their friends if they needed “soda money” for a celebratory trip to the snack bar. Always determined not to miss a moment, she zipped around town in her trusty tan Chevy, usually arriving in a hurry and parking a little crooked—just to be there on time.
Mary’s generosity extended beyond her family. A lifelong Catonsville resident and faithful parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church, she volunteered for decades at school functions, church events, and in the community. She delighted in baking homemade brownies to give to all of her “angels” and “sweethearts.” Mary also treasured her friendships and especially loved going on bus trips and vacations with her friends, collecting souvenir thimbles along the way—a collection she kept and others added to throughout her life. Mary also enjoyed ceramics and arts & crafts, frequently gifting her hand-made treasures to family who still smile when they see them today.
Mary is predeceased by her parents and her siblings Doris Waring, Regina Simpson, John “Tino” Miller, and George Miller Jr.
She is survived by her beloved children Anne Marie Gemmell and husband Dave, Robert Jerome Hall Jr. and wife Phyllis, Mary Patricia “Trish” Armstrong and husband Mark, and John Edwin Hall and wife Teri. Mary was also the devoted grandmother of Sheila Eisel (Jeremy), Kevin Gemmell, Joseph Gemmell (Danielle), Megan Askine (Kyle), Kristy Moore (Justin), Timothy Hall (Shellie), Allie Smallwood (Bobby), and Zachary Hall, and loving great-grandmother (“GG”) of Tommy, Landon, Megan, Riley, Aiden, Parker, Isaac, Savannah, Timothy, Madison, and Calla. Mary (aka “Aunt Bea”) is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.
Mary now rests in the peace of Christ, reunited with those who went before her, and held forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
