Matthew "Matt" T. St. Jean

Matthew “Matt” T. St Jean, 62, passed away suddenly on May 5th, 2025, in his hometown of Catonsville, MD. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert J St. Jean and mother, Mary E. St. Jean. He is the beloved brother of Jeannette Baummer (Richard), Dr. Monica St. Jean (Paul McNelly), Christopher St. Jean (Sarah), and Eric St. Jean (Rebecca). Matt is also survived by five nieces and one nephew.

Matt was a life-long Catonsvillian who loved gathering with friends, golfing, joking around, the legendary Catonsville 4th of July Parade, steamed crabs, and good food. In fact, at one time, Ship’s Café named a menu item in his honor, “Matt’s Buffalo sandwich”. He was particularly proud of his homemade crab dip and made sure it was included at any gathering he hosted. An avid sports fan, Matt loved his Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. He often told stories of the part he played as a Hollywood extra in the movie, “Major League” and was quick to point out his face among the outfield crowd. Matt loved working with his hands and shop was his favorite class in school. Following that passion and in his grandfather’s footsteps, Matt entered the trades as a proud UA Local 486 Steamfitter who not only worked with his tools but held several Union leadership positions over his long career. He proudly served his community for decades as a member of the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department. Matt cherished his constant companion and beloved dog, Val. In more recent years, Matt battled illness but remained fiercely independent. He will be deeply missed by all the friends and family who loved him.

Family will receive friends from 3-5 & 7-9PM on Friday, May 9 at the STERLING-ASHTON-SCHWAB-WITZKE FUNERAL HOME OF CATONSVILLE, INC., 1630 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11AM, Saturday, May 10. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
