On October 15, 2020 Mr. Melvin Medicus, 97 years old and longtime resident of Catonsville, MD died of natural causes. Born in Baltimore on January 3, 1923, he leaves behind his daughter, Carolyn Frodyma (Frank) in Woodstock, MD and his son Mark Medicus (Lin Moeller), in Pullman, Washington; 2 grandchildren, Kathleen Frodyma (Chris Morgan) in San Francisco, CA. and Julie Vilnit, in Elkridge, MD; and one great grandson, Andrew Vilnit.
Melvin was married for 72 years to Ruth Wells Medicus, also of Catonsville, who died in 2018.
He was a lifelong member of the Christadelphian Church of Catonsville.
He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic High School and attended Johns Hopkins University.
He worked for 40 years as an electrician, and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Many of his projects involved the construction and renovations of major hospitals in the greater Baltimore area, including GBMC, Howard General, Union Memorial, and Howard University Hospital in Washington DC.
In the early days of television, he also ran a television repair service, often making house calls to fix the old style vacuum tube TV sets. In addition to taking an active role in church life, his main hobby was collecting and restoring old radios and operating a ham radio set, where he would listen to radio broadcasts from around the world.
He retired from his electrical career in 1988, and for the next 15 years he and his wife enjoyed travelling, especially sea cruises.
Services and burial are private.
