Florence Mary Rostron Howard of Catonsville, Maryland passed away on February 24th, 2025 at 91 years old. Florence - known to her family and friends as “Polly” - was born to George S. Rostron, Sr. and Josephine Dankleman Rostron in Chester, Pa. Polly graduated from Springfield High School, Springfield (Delaware County), Pennsylvania. After graduating from Cedar Crest College with a BA in education, she taught at Nether Providence High School (now known as Strath Haven High School) before moving to Maryland where she taught home economics at Johnnycake Elementary in Baltimore. After retiring from teaching, Polly had a second career as a travel agent, which allowed her to enjoy memorable trips to many destinations around the globe, including a cruise of the Panama Canal with her sister Linda Jo, and trips to South Africa and Disney World with her cherished nephews and nieces. In addition to traveling and doting on her nieces and nephews, Polly had a fondness for her dogs, whom she provided great love and care to. Polly loved the Jersey shore, especially Cape May, and the Y in Ellicott City where she participated in the arthritis water exercise class.
Polly was predeceased by her loving partner Bill Travers, as well as her parents and brothers, George and Bob. She is survived by her sister Linda Jo, who was her travel companion and served as her dedicated caregiver late in Polly’s life.
